Why We Like The Tectal Race Spin Helmet
Enduro season is upon you, the dirt is perfectly tacky, and the temperatures have yet to rise to oppressive levels and you're ready to hit the trail with no holds barred — just make sure to cover your dome first. Making a stylish case for safety, POC's Tectal Race is updated with new Spin technology to boost it into the future, helping dissipate rotational forces from certain styles of crashes, while still backing you up with the impact-absorbing EPS foam and PC shell you've come to know and trust.
POC's new Spin technology works by featuring a robust inner layer on the helmet that sits in between the EPS and your noggin, and allows the helmet to move in any direction in the case of an oblique fall, allowing force to dissipate and be absorbed into the helmet.
Borrowing design inspiration from its Octal and Trabec helmets, POC uses a clean style and unibody construction for the Tectal Race, extending coverage over the back of the head and temples to keep vulnerable areas protected in the event of a crash. Keeping comfort in mind, POC also carves 15 vents and a lengthy system of air channels throughout the Tectal Race so you won't overheat under your lid when you start working hard on a climb. If you need to make a quick fit adjustment on-trail, just spin the dial at the back of the helmet to get the fit you need, and before you head out, tuck your goggles into the goggle strap at the back and adjust the visor to shield your eyes from sun, rain, or the dirt your ride buddy is bound to spray up in front of you.

Fits perfect and quality look and feel
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought the M/L and fits perfect for my 58cm head. I?m a tall guy so it?s hard to find a helmet that the shell isn?t too big but the strap doesn?t choke me. I?m surprised how light this helmet is while still feeling sturdy. Google strap on the back is a pretty useful feature. I also have a POC coron spin air in M/L and they fit the same. All this with fast shipping and by far the lowest price on this helmet, Backcountry is becoming my favorite place to buy gear!

Great helmet
I'm really happy with the fit of this helmet after about 150 hours on it. Vents pretty well, stays in place well, and sweat management is quite good (though sweat mgmt not as good as my Ventral Air Spin). Size XL/XXL weighs 408g on my scale. I also own a POC Ventral Air Spin, and this is basically the MTB equivalent of it. Fits and feels similar, though this MTB helmet ~100g heavier.

Best helmet so far
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I?ve a massive head and wore a Troy Lee A1 helmet XXL before. Very nice and comfy but this POC is much better with comfort plus the goggle strap in the back is perfect to hold my Oakley Sutro sunglasses while I?m riding and don?t need them on. Ventilation is perfect and I like how it drops a decent amount in the back of the head to protect all that area. Very light as well. Highly Recommend By the way this helmet could fit a bigger head than mine cause I still strap it up half way in order to feel it snug so I would say runs a bit larger, at least larger than the Troy Lee

Poor sizing

Great helmet?. if it fits. The Xl/XXL was gigantic. The M/L wouldn?t fit on my head. It seems like they have the equivalent of a ?M? and a XXL but a gap in between. Both with Giro and Smith I have never had this issue. Again, if it fits I?m sure it?s great.

Liking it
- Familiarity:

I really like this helmet. I ordered a few other POC helmets before deciding to keep this one. I like the visor size and it feels good. I have a pretty big head and I ordered the M/L and was able to crank it down to fit my head.

I love this helmet! Super lightweight and low profile, hasn't saved my life yet but it probably will someday. I especially like the adjustment mechanism because it adjusts all the way around the helmet and really conforms to my head rather than just squeezing the back of my head as some helmets do. I do feel like it fits tighter on the sides of my head than the front and back, maybe designed for people with an egghead, but it adjusts well and feels great for hours. Nice helmet

Excellent

Super comfortable, great ventilation, lightweight, excellent coverage without feeling bulky anywhere. Harness and chin strap are comfy and don’t mess with ears or glasses. Nice visor and gap-free goggle compatibility. So good I use it for road riding and ski tours as well. Of note, I typically wear a medium helmet in other brands (Giro, Specialized) and went with the XS/S size here. Still enough room to wear a buff or light beanie comfortably. I recommend trying it on first if you have the option... but this really goes for all helmets.
