ProRide XT Upright Bike Mount

If you're looking for a quick and easy way to secure your bike and get on the trail faster, the Thule ProRide XT Upright Bike Mount might be just the kind of thing you're looking for. While it may seem like a roof rack system would add to your loading time, this mount features an easy and intuitive design to get your bike loaded in a flash. Featuring two wheel trays and a uniquely designed frame holder, the ProRide XT positions your bike in its proper place in an instant. Once you secure the frame holder, the bike will sit in place as you secure the easily-adjustable and quick-release straps around the wheels. The frame-holder itself uses a claw design with soft padding that disperses pressure evenly around the bike's frame tubes, ensuring that there won't be any incidental damage on rugged mountain roads.

Good rack, but not for modern MTB.

I bought this rack with my new car and it worked great for the first couple of seasons. It was particularly good for my commuter bike and fatbike (after purchasing the fatbike adapter). However, there are two main flaws with this rack: 1. The rack is too short for modern slack MTBs. I ride a trail bike (Large frame) and the wheelbase absolutely maxes out the limits of this rack. If one were to want this for anything more slack like an enduro bike, you’d probably have to return it, especially if you ride L or XL frames. 2. Unrelated to the size limitation, both ratchet buckles broke after three seasons (summer seasons as I use the fatbike adapters in the winter). Because the frame is held firm by the clamp, you don’t need to tighten the wheels super tight, but just enough to make sure that the front wheel doesn’t wobble too much while driving highways speeds. You can see in the picture that the buckles are made entirely of plastic with no apparent reinforcement around the pin upon which it pivots. The design almost ensures eventual failure unless you’re just gently buckling the wheels - which is ok for the rear, but resonable pressure is needed to keep the front wheel from going too crazy when driving at speed. I did note that the front buckle failed before the rear, but the rear eventually broke not too long after. Aside from these issues, I'm generally satisfied with the rack. It is reasonably easy to use and is secure for bikes with steel or alloy frames. I’m not sure I would want to clamp a carbon frame so in that case an UpRide might be better.

Noise on my GLC300

The wind sound quite loud regardless where I put the rack on the vehicle

Still in the box - poor instructions/user guide

Was so happy for have bought this ‘on sale’ at a discounted price, yet now it seems like a costly purchase as it is still in the box and likely to stay there. The installations instructions are unclear, with the small cluttered diagrams far from being clear. Will probably give it away or try to sel online.

disappointed :-)

As good as you think!

I got this about a month ago and it's been great! It holds my bike nicely with minimal movement. Also quite easy to install. I ordered the key and lock set to go with it and what a great add on to keep it safe on top of my car and to lock my bike in durnibg the day.

Solid product

Works great, fit great on an off brand rail system. The instructions could have been more descriptive, but they worked. Definitely quality. I recommend locks unless you plan to take it off all the time.

To infinity and beyond…

This is my second ProRide XT. Easily transports my wife’s hybrid and my gravel bike securely and safely. And the same key system keeps things simple.

Love this rack!

I've had this for a couple of years and it's the second one I've bought because I sold the first with my previous car. No removal of wheel required, not too many parts, the clamp is solid, and easy to put the bike in and off and I especially love the simple locking system.

Beware of parking on uneven ground

On my first time out with this rack I parked on uneven ground as is often encountered at trailheads. Wile unloading the bike was uneventful, loading the bike was another matter. The tire mount/straps are too narrow and the front wheel of the mountain bike kept turning and climbing over it as I tried to load it. The tire mounts are also too loose and slide much too easily. The front strap slid forward and exited the rail causing the bike to fall onto the roof of my car and a pedal to get jammed under the bike rack. Also, the rear buckle strap popped out causing the rear tire mount to come off. Looking at all of the lightweight plastic parts and how they are just snapped together makes me question the longevity of this rack. I have a medium frame mountain bike with standard tires. This is unsatisfactory. I never dropped a bicycle while loading my 80s vintage Yakima bike rack. Unfortunately, the Yakima bike rack will not fit on the Thule bars. I will now have to use duct tape on my brand new Thule bike rack to prevent the tire mounts from sliding around and the end caps from flying off.

Installation is a Nightmare

The installation is a nightmare. The instructions were probably designed by genius engineer during the dark days of winter. Some YouTube videos are a great help. Thule sent one of the wrong parts. I know everybody loves their Thule racks, but this has been time consuming, inconvenient…a real struggle for me. .

difficult to load and unload

I have successfully used older style Thule roof rack for years. Previously, tires sit in a groove the mounting the bike is stable with this design. This style is rack is a dangerous adventure loading and unloading. Neither tire is secure and the clamp is constantly jamming with the crank or frame. Have not figured any safe method to either load or unload bikes. Do not recommend.

Frustrated and scared
