When it comes to measuring watts, no one else has done it for as long or as accurately as the German powermeter experts at SRM. If we had one area to fault about its components, it would be its exorbitantly high price, but that all changes with its Origin Road Aluminum Power Meter Crankset. It provides the same ability to quantify your training and racing metrics with world-class accuracy and reliability at a much friendly barrier of entry. Already trusted in the World Tour peloton under the likes of Lotto-Soudal and Bahrain-Merida, it has the durability to withstand day in and day out training and racing as well as travel and the mechanic's pressure washer. Add to that its +/- 1% accuracy and you'll understand why SRM has long been considered the gold-standard when it comes to powermeters.
SRM names this powermeter the Origin because, well, SRM produced the original powermeter going back to 1987. Over the years we've seen it as the centerpiece of Campagnolo and Shimano cranks, providing the necessary electronics and strain gauges to monitor torque and cadence output and the Origin is built from the ground up to SRM's complete specifications. This all-new aluminum crankset offers impressive compatibility with its 110mm spider and spindles allowing the cranks to fit road, TT, tri, cross and track bikes. We're offering it in either a 24mm or 30mm spindles to accommodate almost every frame and bottom bracket on the market.
This model uses its tried-and-proven strain gauges for measuring data. The strain gauges for the powermeter are a system of sensors that detect any resistance and by calculating the velocity of the arms, converts it into watts. Those numbers, specifically cadence between 30 and 255 RPM and wattage between 0 and 4200 watts are then sent to your head unit for analysis.
SRM uses aluminum crank arms and comes in 170, 172.5, and 175mm lengths instead of the adjustable length afforded by the carbon version. The spider accommodates the included 4-bolt Miche 11-speed road rings or any other chainring that utilizes an asymmetric 110BCD pattern.
The powermeter operates wirelessly with ANT+ Sport computers including its PowerControl 7, PowerControl VI, or any other ANT+ compatible device. The battery is rechargeable and SRM claims a 100-hour run time with its rechargeable battery.
