Why We Like The Silca Chain Waxing System

The Silca Chain Waxing System is a complete wax system that allows us to wax our bike's chain at home. The kit includes an electric wax heater pot with a lid, chain hanging cable, and a stand to wax our chain without a mess. The pot can hold up to 600 milliliters of wax, and the base of the pot is notched for a good grip that won't move around.

Sure... you COULD just buy a Crockpot.

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Sure they cost less. But WAY less control. High? Low? What temps are those? This unit has the ability to set precise temps to get the appropriate melt on the wax, without the potential to damage some of the higher end waxes with too high of temps. Why wax? Some say performance benefits. Me? I'm lazy. Less cleaning of my drivetrain is the #1 reason for me. And this is the easiest and best set-up I've found to wax your chains.

Easy to use

The Silca system works great. It's very simple to use and makes waxing a single chain pretty easy with very little mess. My only suggestion to Silca would be to make the pot a bit larger. Fitting a chain in there after it's looped thru the chain coupler can be challenging depending on chain length and how many segments you laced it thru. It would definitely be a struggle if one were to attempt waxing two or more chains at once.

Was feeling the peer pressure to wax

I have waxed a couple of chains so far and I think I am a convert. This system works very nicely. Essentially a more expensive crock pot but works very well.

Hot Melt Masterpiece

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Hot melt made easy. Simple. Efficient. Overall a great way to get into hot melt chain waxing. The pot and wax and a chain all for a great Black Friday deal. My only caveat is that I’d love a better way to manage the chain link holder to keep it from slipping into the hot wax. Sliding a t shape allen or screw driver through it helps but isn’t as elegant.

Why didn't I start waxing sooner??

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Awesome piece of equipment. Takes a while to fully melt and reach that ideal 75 deg Celsius temperature, which gives you plenty of time to properly strip the chain and clean the drivetrain on initial application. (I did not opt to use the strip chip, I want to keep the wax as clean as possible) Highly advise to spend some time watching a few Silca YouTube videos while waiting for the shipment to avoid mishaps once you start. Only one grip about this product: the wax reservoir could be larger, to more easily submerge the whole chain. As is, you have to thread it onto the wire/handle just right, and even then, struggle a tad to get it all to fit and submerge. Some splashing/spillage is bound to occur, so careful where you set this up. Other than that? Never had a quieter or cleaner chain before. Awesome stuff. Got 2 endurance chips and a 2nd chain for each bike to make swaps quick and not too frequent.

I decided to try hot waxing my chain after using drip wax with good results. Bought the chain wax system because I didn't want to do the stove top thing. The system is easy to use with simple instructions. Good push button temp control. A convenient chain hanger helps keep surrounding area clean. I'm doing three bikes which helped me justify the cost. I can't speak to chain longevity yet, but I do like a clean to the touch drive train.
