Quite a sizeable sector of our mountain biking Herd enjoys their trail time aboard a Hightower like this Hightower Carbon X GX Eagle AXS Reserve Mountain Bike because it truly represents what an uncompromising trail bike should be. With 145mm of VPP travel, we count on this bike to track predictably through repeated hits and it stands up high in its travel for a supportive feel on the climbs. While the new 64.5-degree headtube angle (low position, 150mm fork) may seem slack for a mid-travel trail bike, it delivers incredible straightlining stability on the descents while the steep 76.4-degree seat tube angle (low position, size large) balances things out with an optimal climbing position. We’re most excited about the Glovebox integrated frame storage that’s new for this V3 Hightower because it lets us stash the included Tool Wallet and Tube Purse, along with a windbreaker or extra snack.

Santa Cruz leaves very little to be desired on this impressive build, with SRAM’s GX Eagle AXS electronic shifter and derailleur that we love for technical terrain because it delivers truly instantaneous shifting. When paired with Reserve 30 HD carbon wheels and I9’s 1/1 hubs, it creates an incredibly reactive feel that keeps us poised even in challenging terrain like Bellingham steeps. This build utilizes the Carbon C frame layup which is slightly heavier than its CC counterpart, yet still delivers uncompromising stiffness and durability. The 29in wheels let us hold our momentum through root mazes and jagged rocks, making this bike perfect for rugged backcountry terrain. Code RS brakes from SRAM provide enduro-ready stopping power, making this build more than suitable as a quiver killer, or a trail-focused addition for a rider with a long-travel rig.
