When we set out on a trail adventure with unknown destinations, we choose the Santa Cruz Bronson for its do-it-all, fun-loving attitude. Built from the ultralight, ultra-strong Carbon CC layup, the Bronson is purpose-built around a mixed-wheel setup giving us the superior rollover ability of a 29er up front and the playfulness of a 27.5-in bike out back. This bike crushes hair-raising descents, keeping us firmly planted on the pedals through chundery sections, yet doesn’t shy away from a long, grueling climb thanks to 150mm of highly efficient VPP rear travel. For those of us who refuse to be defined by one type of bike, the slack 64.5-degree headtube angle and long reach provide plenty of high-speed stability, while the 76.6-degree seat tube angle puts us in a powerful and comfortable position to cruise up aggressive climbs.

With its selection of top-tier and bombproof components, the Bronson CC X0 Eagle Transmission build is designed for unrelenting, reliable performance in just about any conditions we can find. SRAM’s new 12-speed X0 Eagle Transmission groupset takes care of shifting duties with absolute precision, even under heavy pedaling efforts, while a pair of 4-piston Code Silver Stealth brakes allow us to pick apart technical descents with ease. A RockShox Lyrik Ultimate with 160mm of travel pairs nicely with the Super Deluxe Ultimate rear shock to make short work of technical descents and provide a supportive pedaling platform for racing up slippery rocks and roots. The Race Face ARC 30 Offset wheels truly strike the perfect balance between stiffness and compliance so that we can lock into our line without worrying about getting bucked off when things get chunky.
