Why We Like The Rocky Mountain Altitude Alloy 30 Shimano Mountain Bike
From bike park days to bombing trails in the foothills, if there were one bike dedicated to aggressive riding, it would be the all-metal version of the Rocky Mountain Altitude. Designed to shred big mountain descents while still maintaining the ability to climb back up and do it all over again, the Rocky Mountain Altitude sports 160mm of Smoothlink suspension for capability and performance on the most aggressive trails. Smoothlink suspension technology and size-specific tunes combine to give us impressive pedaling capabilities, a supportive mid-stroke to carry our speed through trail obstacles, and sturdy bottom-out protection for aggressive riding. Whether we want to slacken out our ride for more capability at the bike park or steepen up our angles for more efficiency and climbing capability, the Ride-9 adjustment system gives us an array of nine geometry adjustments to customize our ride feel. In the neutral setting, the Altitude has a 65-degree head tube angle descending capability and a 76-degree seat tube angle to give us a bike that climbs comfortably. A 2-position chainstay adjustment allows us to extend our chainstays by 10mm for extra stability in steeper terrain. Lastly, Neat internal cable routing makes for tidy cable management, and integrated frame protection keeps our paint job looking new.
The Alloy 30 Shimano build of the Altitude is a great value, entry-level build for performance out on the trails. Starting out the build is Rocky Mountain's FORM alloy frame, boasting an impressively durable yet agile aluminum frame. Shifting performance is handled by the reliable Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain, giving us a wide-range, 12-speed drivetrain for budget-oriented riders. Shimano MT4120 4-piston brakes give us big mountain power in a simple package, and aggressive Maxxis tires throw down massive traction through berms. Rock gardens and sending it off small drops are no match for the RockShox Zeb Select RC fork, giving us 170mm of tunable, trail-ready performance, while the RockShox Deluxe Select+ rear shock maintains optimal performance no matter the terrain thanks to its custom tune and compression adjustments.
