The smell of embrocation, ringing cowbells, and falling leaves signal cyclocross season. If you're looking for your first 'cross bike or a worthy pit bike, Ridley's X-Ride Disc 105 HD Complete Cyclocross Bike is an excellent choice. The aluminum frame adds value without skimping on performance, and the Shimano 105 drivetrain and hydraulic brakes don't leave much to be desired. Fulcrum Racing Sport wheels and Clement's renowned MXP tires are ready to tackle all the off camber slopes, relentless sandpits, and mud bogs on your quest for a podium position.
Ridley constructs the X-Ride from triple butted 7005-T6 alloy with specially shaped seatstays to damp energy robbing vibrations while out on the course. The Belgian brand routes cables internally for clean lines and reduced chance of mud contamination of shift housing. Internal routing also keeps housing out of the way when suit-casing the bike over the barriers or shouldering it up a steep run-up. Geometry honed by working with some of the sport's best is paired with wide tire clearances and allows ample room for mud-caked tires, so you can ride longer if you don't have a pressure washer or a second bike.
The X-Ride frame sees an Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork to take the edge off rough courses while contributing to a stiff and responsive front end. This fork features a barely perceptible asymmetry that counters the torsional forces applied to the left fork leg during braking to reduce flex and promote a long fork life. You'll find stainless steel inserts in the dropouts that protect the carbon from damage, and a scuff plate affixed to the inner left fork leg fends off errant rotors during hurried wheel changes, preventing gouging or scratching. Thru-axles front and rear add rigidity on both ends and ensure rotors stay aligned with calipers every time the wheels are installed.
