Cyclocross season is always an exciting time of year, with the changing seasons and unpredictable weather forcing weekly adaptations to riding. The Ridley X-Night 40 Disc Ultegra Complete Cyclocross Bike comes prepared for it all with a blend of technology and classic design to tackle the elements. Bring on the snow, sleet, rain, or random hot and sunny day for ridiculous fun on any cyclocross course.
The X-Knight is made from stiff-yet-compliant 24T high modulus carbon fiber that seamlessly transfers power into forward motion while soaking up jarring vibrations for a comfortable ride to tackle the even roughest, root-latticed field. Internal cable routing cleanly gets the cables out of the way for easy shouldering on run-ups and unrideable muddy sections. Race-specific European cyclocross geometry pairs with wide tire clearance to create a frame that can handle everything from dusty, hardpacked NorCal dirt to the rainsoaked courses of the upper East Coast.
The 2016 X-Night 40 brings with it an updated fork featuring a few little details to increase durability and just make life easier. The new Oryx Disc carbon fiber fork features a 15mm thru axle for a torque-resistant ride, and its barely perceptible asymmetry counters the torsional forces applied to the left fork leg during braking. Stainless steel inserts at the dropouts protect the carbon from damage, and a scuff plate on the inner left fork legs protects the surface from rogue discs during hurried wheel changes in the pit. Less wear and tear leads to a longer fork lifespan, so you can look forward to many seasons of competition.
If you're comparing Ridley models, the main difference between the X-Night 30 and the X-Night 40 is in the build kit. While the 30 features a full Shimano Ultegra drivetrain, Ridley builds up the X-Night 40 Disc with a mix of Shimano Ultegra, 105, and FSA components for a slightly heavier but more affordable package. The FSA Gossamer crankset features 46 and 36t chainrings paired with a Shimano 11-28t cassette for a wide gear range to tackle both flat and hilly courses with ease. While the 30 utilized a 4ZA Cirrus cockpit, the X-Night 30 comes with 4ZA Stratus components to control the ride. A set of DT Swiss R24 Spline DB tubeless-ready wheels come wrapped with Challenge Grifo Plus tires to get you rolling smoothly to the line.
