Why We Like The Pivot Trail 429 Pro XT/XTR Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike
Ripping local singletrack lines has never been more fun than when we're aboard the Pivot Trail 429 Pro XT/XTR Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike. This fun rocket of a bike uses DW-link suspension for a bottomless feel on the descents and a responsive ride on the climbs. With the Trail 429 getting lower, longer, and slacker geometry treatment we're all aboard on getting a leg over and sending it through new shoots. This version of the Trail 429 gets lightweight carbon hoops from Reynolds included so we can confidently rip it up with our cross-country-oriented friends.
Geometry on this version of the 429 is dialed for a competent trail bike that relishes the descents as much as it pushes us up the climbs. A flip-chip in the rear lets us choose between 'slack' and 'slacker', so naturally, we're going for the slacker option. In this setting, the headtube drops to 66° all while keeping a relatively steep seat tube angle of 75°. Combined with a middling wheelbase of 1188mm(size M) we're having fun no matter what direction the trail goes or how long the next descent is.
Helping us keep the fun between the legs and a smile on our faces is the DW-link suspension paired with supple Fox suspension. DW-linkage makes for an incredibly efficient pedaler, eliminating pedal input from affecting our suspension. Fox Factory suspension is top of the class and the Kashima coating promises to help our squish components ride better for longer. Drivetrain on the 429 is a mix of Shimano XT and XTR components, this group brings a ton of range and incredible shifting smoothness.
Finishing off the Pivot is the modern, lightweight, and durable wheels provided by Reynolds carbon. These wheels tip the scales at just under 1500g which makes even some of our cross-country friends blush. These wheels are built with differing internal widths, allowing for a bigger contact patch in the front and better rolling resistance in the rear. Specced with carbon bars and lightweight components where it counts we can't wait to get our legs over this bike. The new Trail 429's frame alone is 300g lighter than the previous model and allows for a full-size water bottle, making it the bike we choose for just about any ride on dirt.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
