Why We Like The Pivot Mach 4 SL Ride SLX/XT Mountain Bike
Whether slaying local singletrack or powering through to the podium, the Pivot Mach 4 SL is a popular choice with the Herd when we need a reliable, lightning-fast cross-country bike. We love the Pivot Mach 4 SL for its ultralight frame, adjustable travel, and recent frame improvements that don't lose sight of its race origins. Pushing the boundaries to make the Mach 4 SL more capable, Pivot elevated what a cross-country race bike could be and made various improvements to the bike's geometry for an enhanced ride. A slacker head tube, steeper seat tube, and longer chainstays, reach, and wheelbase all aid the Mach 4 SL in being more capable and faster in the ever-evolving world of cross-country bikes. The Mach 4 SL also features a new rocker link with a flip chip for adjustable travel. Now equipped with 106mm of premium DW-Link suspension over the previous 100mm, the Mach 4 SL is more capable than ever and also gives us the option of changing to 115MM when we flip the chip in the shock link. With a 66.7-degree head tube angle and a longer reach and wheelbase, we are more composed and confident when descending steeper technical terrain. A steeper seat tube angle puts us in a more efficient climbing position to make short work of the technical climbs, and a lower standover height allows for longer dropper posts so riders of every size can get the perfect fit. The improved DW-Link suspension and redesigned rocker link bring us more travel, more efficient pedaling performance, and improved traction in various scenarios. Short and snappy chainstays, a lightweight frame, improved geometry, adjustable travel, and 29-inch wheels allow the Pivot Mach 4 SL to dominate the cross-country scene while still being able to compete when it's time to ride more technical trails.
The Ride SLX/XT build of the Pivot Mach 4 SL is race-ready and has quality components that won't break the bank. First up, all builds of the Mach 4 SL received a revised frame that not only included multiple geometry improvements but saw a significantly reduced weight while still maintaining the same stiffness and strength expected from Pivot's frames. Next, a mixed Shimano's XT and SLX drivetrain provides reliable shifting that sports incredible value for the build, giving us a wide-range drivetrain known for its precision. DT Swiss X1900 wheels paired with the DT Swiss 370 hubs give us a quality wheelset that will make us feel confident as we pick apart technical singletrack. A Fox performance 34 StepCast fork with 120mm of travel is lightweight, has compression and rebound adjustments and helps smooth the trail. Rounding this build off, the new Fox Performance Float rear shock gives adjustable suspension performance and ground-gripping traction, and a SRAM TwistLoc, handlebar-mounted remote lockout allows us to stiffen up our rear end for climbing efficiency.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
