With the reintroduction of the Paris name to the Pinarello carbon road bike lineup, the Italian brand provides a not-so-subtle nod to its astonishing tally of wins in the historic French city. Pinarello designs the Paris Disk after the flagship Dogma F12. And although receiving the race-winning, trickle-down technology from the F12, the Paris is intended to be a more relaxed and endurance-focused bike - albeit one that can still perform at the pointy-end of local races. A shorter reach, higher stack, longer chainstays, and a more relaxed head tube angle speak to the endurance inspired geometry compared to the Dogma F12.
Pinarello's Gan road bike moves down the hierarchy with the Paris's arrival, and modernization may be the reasoning. Pinarello chooses Shimano's 105 compact drivetrain with flat mount disc brakes for the Paris over the Gan's rim-brake standard, solidly positioning the Paris among the ever-expanding fleet of modern, disc-brake equipped road bikes. With the disc-brake option, tire clearance is boosted to a beneficial 30mm maximum clearance, making the Paris more than capable of enjoying mixed riding conditions and lengthy sections of groomed gravel. In comparison, the Gan is limited to 25mm tires.
Pinarello extends its proven asymmetric frame shaping around the bottom bracket to fortify the area and improve stiffness and performance efficiency. The frame uses T600 unidirectional carbon for a softer and more compliant ride feel that pushes the bike towards an endurance riding character more than the stiff, high-modulus, ultra-lightweight carbon frame found on the Dogma. It's not a weakness, but more of a trade-off to have Pinarello design at a lower price point. And Think 2 internal cable routing cleans up the profile and complements Pinarello's aerodynamic FlatBack tube technology.
Shimano's workhorse 105 drivetrain runs the length of the Paris with a compact drivetrain and a healthy 11-28 tooth cassette to assist with summiting alpine passes along your route. The Paris is equipped with center lock 160mm rotors (the maximum fitting size) for impressive stopping power and ease of install.
