Cosmic Carbone SLE Carbon Road Wheelset - Clincher

Mavic constructed the Cosmic Carbone SLE Carbon Clincher Road Wheelset with striking similarity to the Carbone SLR. The wheels start with a Maxtal aluminum rim brought together with a seamless SUP weld. The brake track is then milled for a smooth, finish. The use of a Maxtal rim is a natural choice, given the strength to weight ratio and braking ability. Mavic mills out the unused area of the rim between spoke holes to reduce rotational weight without impacting stiffness or durability. The brake track and rim are finished with the Exalith 2 treatment. Though the treatment may look like a simple matte finish, you'll notice a crescent pattern through the entire brake track. This pattern improves braking power and modulation, and increases the durability of the rim even further.

The brilliance of this type of wheel design is that the Maxtal rim takes the daily beating, but the carbon fairing gives you an aerodynamic advantage without the weight penalty you'd incur if the entire wheel were alloy. The 52mm-deep fairing is finished with the same 12K weave as the SLRs, and hits a nice midpoint between the just-barely-deep-enough, and the too-deep-to-ride-in-crosswinds.

If your rim is aerodynamic but your hub and spokes act like a windsock, your energy is lost. Mavic improved its hub design to be more aerodynamic on the Carbone SLR wheels, with a flatter construction than lower end offerings. Both hubs use double-sealed, QRM+ cartridge bearings, which are micro-adjustable. For more stability in the rear hub, Mavic uses FTS-L reinforcement between the pawl and hub body; two stainless steel inserts add strength without much weight.

Bladed, straight pull, steel spokes lace the rims to the hubs in a 16 spoke, radial pattern on the front wheel. The rear wheel uses a radial/two-cross pattern with 20 spokes for a balance of weight and strength.

Mavic is expanding its line of wheel-tire system, and included Griplink/ Powerlink front and rear specific clincher tires with the Cosmic Carbone SLE Carbon Clincher Wheelset. The tires are 127 TPI, and will stand up to cobbles while still gripping through the hair-pins.

The Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLE Carbon Clincher Road Wheelset comes with BR601 front and rear quick releases, wheelbags, Exalith brake pads, a computer magnet for the front wheel, adjustment wrench, valve extender, rim tape, and user guide. The wheels come in Black with Black tires and are available with a Campagnolo or Shimano/SRAM freehub body.
