Aksium Wheelset - Clincher OE

People ask what Mavic offers for a "normal" wheelset. The Mavic Aksium (pronounced "axiom") is the answer. It might not be axiomatic when first looking at them, but a close study reveals what is self-evident to Mavic. "Normal" has stainless steel spokes and brass nipples. "Normal" has conventional spoke threading. "Normal" has rim strips. "Normal" has a steel cassette body. "Normal" has a long-throw quick release with a gradual increase in clamping pressure.

Of course, being Mavic, the wheel is also beautifully executed. Bladed, straight-pull spokes. Hubs that are nearly flangeless. High-quality sealed bearings. A strong, durable, fast-engaging pawl system for the cassette. Rim wear indicators built into rim sidewalls. The Aksium is a wheel that takes advantage of Mavic's technological gains while using slightly more conventional bits to come up with a wheel that is super for its price point.

The Aksium has 20 straight-pull spokes in both front and rear wheels. They anchor in the aluminum hub shells and are fixed to the 24mm tall 6061 aluminum rims with self-locking brass nipples. The spoke holes are drilled through the rim, and the eyelet area is hammer hardened for durability. The braking surfaces are finished with Mavic's UB Control machining to ensure pulse-free braking. The front wheel is radially laced, while the rear is radial on the non-drive side and two-cross on the drive side for efficient torque transfer. They run on Mavic's QRM+ high-end bearings and steel axles. The steel freehub body directs your power through Mavic's FTS-L two pawl freehub mechanism.

This wheelset is part of Mavic's MP3 extended warranty program. The acronym stands for Mavic Product Protection Plan, and it provides you with two years of almost unlimited no-fault protection from Mavic. More details can be found on the MP3 website. Please note that MP3 coverage must be purchased within 5 days of the date that you receive your wheels. You'll get an email from us the day after your online wheel purchase, containing the retailer and product codes that you'll need to register your wheels on the Mavic MP3 site. You'll also need the serial numbers that you'll find on your wheels. The cost for this coverage is approximately 8% of the retail cost of the wheels.

The Mavic Aksium wheelset comes with BR101 quick releases, rim strips, user guide and warranty card. The ETRTO size is 622x15c. Recommended tire sizes are 700x19-32c. Choose between a Campagnolo-compatible cassette body (ED10) or Shimano/SRAM compatible (M10). The wheels are available as clinchers only. The wheels weigh 830g front, 965g rear for weight of 1795g per pair (excluding skewers).
