Bought a pair of these after buying the road cx238. The fit is the same as the cx238, needless to say they are incredibly comfortable and adjustable. most comfortable MTB shoes i have ever bought

Love this shoe

Love it. Biggest issue was sizing. I had to upsize twice before I got to the right size. I'm usually a 10.5, but that and size 11 were both too small. You order larger than expected. Typically they make you pay for shipping in this scenario, but they eliminated that fee the second two orders.

I was skeptical due to my history with low end Lake shoes...fir for a pair of 42s was perfect - roomy without being sloppy or loose. they have great build quality and are really convenient to take off and on.. stiff on the bike and power transfer is good without sacrificing comfort...highly recommend..

I’ve heard some recommendations for Lake shoes but haven’t found them in any stores to see the quality or try them on. After years of accepting imperfections in other shoes I ordered these and I am pleased. Their build quality is noticeably good. Their size chart is accurate. A couple things I was unhappy about are the right cleat’s inner limit is less than the left’s - meaning the holes aren’t symmetrical or something and the right shoe is clearly closer to the crank arm than the left. (I have the cleats slammed for widest stance.) Kinda annoying. May get some pedal extensions… One of the BOAs was loose and wobbly but tightened down easily with a T6. The insoles are simply a waste of resources. Budget in some better ones with support. Despite these issues, the shoes are 2 Legit 2 Quit.

43 Wide Black/Camo. First impressions are that they are very high quality, fit is excellent. They weigh 400g per shoe without the cleat. My old Shimano XC7 were about 325 without the cleat and the S-Works Recon lace were about 300g per shoe. I returned the Recon because the outside of the shoe dug into my ankle. I think most of the weight comes from the extra rubber/grip on the bottom of the shoe but the leather is thicker and more substantial all over compared to the XC7 and the S-Works Recon lace ups that I returned. I'm sure some people use these a "race" shoe but I think they fit best as an all around riding shoe that could be used for races, trail and gravel. I wish I could say that they don't have any heel slip but they do have some, very tolerable though. They are very rigid with the full carbon sole so I guess that's to be expected but the amount of heel slip they have is easy to tolerate. My Giro Chamber II have zero heel slip but they are as flexible as a regular tennis shoe. The BOA can be adjusted in both directions so that's nice.

Fit good in most places but not all

I needed new shoes, my 25 year old Carnac's are needing too many repairs. The Lake MX238 was said to be wide so I gave them a try. Around the ball of my foot and toe box fit well. My heel also stayed in place. I can feel air flowing in and around my feet - which is great. The issue I had/have is around my inside ankles. The shoe is too high and cut into my ankles. I had a cobbler cut the shoe down and that resolved the issue at the bottom of my inside ankles. However, there is still an issue because the plastic piece that holds the boa cable is still a bit high and digs into my foot a bit. Some more cutting may be needed but this is hampered by the boa piece. There doesn't seem to be a reason the shoe is so high at that point. These shoes could be 110% a great product with just a bit of adjustment in design.

My Lakes and Shimano XTRs arrived Thursday and new Lynskey gravel bike arrived Friday. Three days later I've tallied 200+ miles. I love these shoes. Light, comfortable, breathable, and beautiful. I wear a 10.5 to 11 wide. My Lakes are 44. Double boa is terrific for small adjustments on a long ride. Just the right amount of room in the toe box. No slippage. Right amount of stiffness. Enter and exit the XTRs perfectly. I switched over from an old pair of Specializeds that I use on my road bike. I won't be wearing those again.

returned - Significant Heel Slip

I purchsed these Lakes based on reveiws noting that Lake ( and Bont) make cycling shoes that have a wide forefoot, good fitting heels and are not just "oversized shoes" that have excessive volume overall. I wear Altra's for athletic shoes because of the need for a wide toe box to accommodate foot issues (bunion, morton's neuroma, metatarsalgia). My hope was that the lakes would work well for cycling. The forfoot area in these Lakes was indeed wide & comfortable for my foot issues. Unfortunately the heel was not snug at all & the shoes slipped. This even occurred in a smaller size ( length too short & toes hit edge) than I typically wear as well as the size that was appropriate for my foot length. These seem to be Wide and high volume overall so may not work well if your Heels are Not wide.

I bought these to use with my road bike riding as I am getting tired of walking in road bike shoes! I am getting older, my balance in walking with road bike shoes is getting worse!! First time out we did a 45 mile ride....the first 10 miles I was just getting used to the different cleats, not really concentrating on the shoe itself........then I realized how comfortable the shoes are! Walking in to a convenience store was like walking in the most comfortable street shoes I own! I also need the extra with because of bunions and these fit the bill. My road shoes are also Lake's with Boa's......they are super for adjusting and having plenty of room to get the shoes on & off easily! I also have a mountain bike where I can use the same shoe for either bike! You won't be disappointed in having this shoe!
