In classic Ibis fashion, they enter the eMTB scene to the beat of their own drum with the Oso GX e-Bike. This level-headed machine boasts 155-millimeters of rear travel with a 170-millimeter fork, placing it squarely in the gravity-minded mountain bike space. The Bosch Performance Line CX drive system provides pedal-assisted power that lets us tick off more laps on our favorite enduro and downhill trails than we’d be able to on our normal bikes.
What’s cool about the Oso are the integrated front and rear lights that let this premium eMTB double as a grocery-getter. The Oso also is highly customizable for on-trail use. It’s compatible with forks ranging from 170- to 190-millimeters in travel (yes, that means dual-crown downhill forks too) and with a longer stroke shock, you can even bump the rear travel up to 170-millimeters. In the stock 170-millimeter fork configuration, the bike has a fairly slack 64-degree head tube angle, which is nice and stable on high-speed downhill trails, perfect for mashing through rock gardens or pinning jump lines.
The small and medium sizes roll on a mixed-wheel configuration with a 29-inch wheel up front to gobble bumps and steps and a 27.5-inch rear wheel that makes cornering and jumping more intuitive. The large and x-large sizes feature dual 29-inch wheels that help the bike maneuver extra-gnarly terrain. This GX build strikes an excellent balance between performance and value with a workhorse GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain from SRAM that provides excellent shifting characteristics with a durable design.
Another one of our highlights is the Fox 38 Performance fork that delivers a wide range of adjustments and 170-millimeters of travel that’s great for big hits and long descents. We love to see Maxxis tires with Double Down casing on this build since the added durability is very appreciated, considering the extra weight of the battery and motor. Ibis specs a handful of in-house components on this build including their Blackbird Send aluminum rims, which also feature a 35-millimeter internal rim width for added traction. The Oso is a great fit for riders who already know they like Ibis bikes, and for riders who are looking for an eMTB that has unique features like integrated lights and a wide range of suspension configurations.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
