Ibis responds to the tidal shift towards plus-sized tire preferences and ever higher expectations of high-speed, hard-hitting durability with its 942 Carbon Fiber 29in Boost Wheelset. Boasting a beefy rim width, the 942's profile sits shallower than its 941 predecessor for better impact resistance and reduced rolling weight.

The lower the rim, the better it manages big hits, bigger drops, and unexpected roll-overs without failing under you. Essentially, the 942 is designed to withstand even more enduro abuse than its hard-charging predecessors. Given that Ibis' internal tests showed the outgoing 941 is between 50 and 300% stronger than competing models, we realize that pushing even further ahead in the durability game is an ambitious—and maybe even unnecessary—move. But that's just how Ibis rolls.

Despite the change in depth, the 942 still has the same 35mm internal width, which further buttresses the rim against the deprecations of the trail while allowing plus-sized tires to sit nice and fat. This increases air volume to decrease PSI for better traction across everything from root-latticed climbs to rain-slicked granite. The wide footprint is supplemented with a hookless bead that can be set up tubeless right at home with a regular floor pump and decreases the risk of burping when you're wantonly throwing your weight into switchbacks and punching through rock gardens.

Ibis laces the 942 rim to Industry Nine's Torch hubs to complete the wheelset, and anyone who's spent time on that brand's meticulously CNC-machined freehubs will be nodding in agreement with that decision. The freehub features six, offset pawls in a mechanism that cuts the engagement angle down to just three degrees, which translates to nearly instantaneous response out on the trail.
