Why We Like The Edge 1040 Solar GPS Bike Computer
We use the Edge 1040 Solar GPS Bike Computer to make the most of our time on two wheels—it's the only solar-charged option from Garmin, positioned right at the top of the line. Even during the most demanding usage, like GPS tracking and connectivity with other devices, the solar charging allows this computer to run for up to 45 hours straight. With more conservative usage, this model can run over 150 hours. Our favorite features include the multi-band that lets us explore far outside of cell service and the three included mounts that let us move the device from our mountain bike to our road bike with ease. The Edge 1040 also uses stamina insights and training suggestions to help dial us in for bigger efforts and race days.

Worked great for a while
The computer was flawless for a few months. Now I’m have issues with it trying to switch to a different version of my power meter before I ride. It doesn’t turn on right away when I try to turn it on. Sometimes it takes about 5 mins of trying to get it to turn on. It’s really been frustrating lately. I have been mostly using my older wahoo model in place of it, because it’s been so finicky.

Horrible software
The Garmin bike computer software is unintuirive, buggy, very difficult to use. I bought the extra battery it mount on. Unfortunately the battery and bike computer use different charge plugs. Basically poorly thought out design and implementation. I wish I had bought a Wahoo instead.

Love it!!
I purchased my Edge 1040 Solar to replace my Garmin edge 530 that I had for years. I love all the options, how easy it is to use and change the data screens, and the solar charging is a plus.

Excellent battery life and all the features one could want in a head in unit, use it everyday and can handle all my 15+ hour rides and only really needs to be charged once a week

Reliable
While in heavy pursuit by feral ranch chihuahuas on the gravel roads of Oklahoma you’ll never make a wrong turn with the edge. It also sucks up the sun on the treeless roads to last longer than you can.

Garmin 1040 does everything Garmin promised. The controls are not completely intuitive but not too dig ft oily to figure out. Solar charging and battery life has exceeded my expectations on how long this thing can go between plugging in to recharge.

It works
I am enjoying the Edge 1040 Solar. The interfacing apps work (TyreWiz, My Bike Radar). It has been connecting to phone, apps and sensors flawlessly thus far.

Garmin outdoes themselves yet again
I don't usually rave about cycling products, but Garmin really has got this market sector nailed w/ their bike computers. I love everything about their Edge computers - especially the battery life and massive screen. I can fit darn near every metric I care about on one screen, so I'm not swiping around to get the data I want. If you're looking for a large screen with amazing battery life, this bike computer is for you.
