Gossamer Pro BB30 Compact Crankset

Fabian Cancellara famously expressed a preference for the FSA Gossamer crankset over their lighter carbon offerings, and rode one to a sprinters-be-damned Stage 3 victory in the '07 Tour de France. If the aluminum-armed Gossamer cranks can handle that kind of unrelenting force, we're confident that they're plenty sufficient for the rest of us. The FSA Gossamer Pro BB30 Compact Crankset is even stiffer. That's part of the BB30 equation, which also includes a decreased crankarm width for improved ankle/heel clearance. For reasons we don't entirely understand, though, the BB30 Gossamer is eight grams heavier than its MegaExo counterpart.

The cold-forged 6061 alloy crankarms are polished and anodized Black to match the outer face of the Black CNC machined 7075 chainrings. The Gossamer Pro Compact has a 110mm bolt circle. The rings attach to the five-arm alloy spider via T-30 Torx internal wrenching alloy fasteners. Though more difficult to produce, the Torx interface ensures strip-free, proper torquing of the hardware. A tight fit and snug fasteners means less power-robbing flex and decreased chance for strange creaking noises to develop. The 30mm 7075 aluminum spindle is pressed into the drive-side crankarm under tremendous pressure. The larger diameter and stiffer alloy spindle requires the use of 41mm o.d. steel cartridge bearings. Since the bearing is bigger, the balls inside are also larger. They have a greater load capacity and offer more durability than the MegaExo system.

The FSA Gossamer Pro BB30 Compact Crankset is only available in a 50/34 configuration. It can be used with all 10-speed road shifting systems. We also sell FSA produced Campy 11-speed compatible chainrings which can be fitted to this crankset. Choose between four crankarm lengths -- 170, 172.5, and 175mm. Claimed weight is 808 grams.
