In our pursuit to emulate our heroes of the Euro peloton we've taken to certain activities -- we snip the elastic bands off our jersey sleeves; we're sure to litter our empty GU packets on the roadside; when we blow snot on our faces, we don't completely wipe it off; and, perhaps most importantly, when we downshift chainrings we never ever ever drop our chain between our small ring and our BB shell. How do we do it? Simple: We've got the Deda Dog Fang installed on our seat tube. Look closely at photosets featuring bike checks from riders in the pro peloton -- do you oftentimes see a tiny black band just below the front derailleur on pro bikes? It's a Dog Fang -- a simple plastic band with what appears to be an inch-long tooth positioned to the inside of your small ring. The concept is simple: If you overshift when going from big-to-small ring, the plastic tooth prevents the chain from coming off the small ring. The noise it'll make won't be pretty. But it'll keep you from dropping your chain and getting dropped from the group.
The Dog Fang is available in 3 sizes. These sizes represent its inside diameter. Please measure the outside diameter of your seat tube below your front derailleur clamp (or braze-on tab). Choose the Dog Fang whose size is larger than your seat tube OD.
The actual weight of the Deda Dog Fang Chain Guide: 28.6 is 9g. 31.8 is 10g. 34.9 is 11g.
