Does not disappoint

This layer wicks away moisture fast, which is what I look for in any winter weather gear. I sweat a lot even in the winter, but this keeps me warm on even long rides. By far the most comfortable and warmest baselayer I've owned to date. And the mesh design at the armpits is the icing on the cake.

Heavyweight Warmth in a Lightweight Base
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times

Based on the name and temperature rating for base layer I was expecting a much heavier fabric when I ordered it. Much to my surprise, it's very thin. This doesn't mean it's not warm though! I have been super impressed with how well this piece provides warmth while still shedding excess heat and keeping me dry. Bust out a strong sweat on a climb and it wicks the moisture away instantly keeping you warm on the descent. I've worn it between 20F and 50F and, with adequate ventilation, it is perfect every time. I'm 6' and 165 (15 1/2 x 34 shirt) and the medium is a snug fit all around with good sleeve and body length. Probably not a great fit if you're on the bigger side.

Perfect first layer for cold weather

This is a warm and comfortable first layer that fits snug (as is should), provides excellent thermal insulation, and is just the right amount of wicking and mesh vents to regulate body temp during different levels of intensity. I wear this under a mid-layer jersey and jacket top layer for 30- deg F, or 30+F during brisk rides with just a Castelli ROS jacket and no mid layer. The neck is warm and I like the adjustable length. This is an essential piece for cold weather riding. Castelli got it right. I am a men's size small in all Castelli wear, which makes up most of my riding kit throughout the year. This Flanders base layer fits me perfectly.

Castelli Flanders Neck Warmer

Castelli has done it again. I never tire of Castelli impressing me with their innovations. The Flanders Warmer is phenomenal kit for those who ride throughout the year and who often find themselves in very chilly climates. What impresses me maybe the most is that Castelli has figured out how to make their polyester base layers as functional as wool. I wear a lot of wool and have always been impressed by its unique ability to wick sweat and keep the body warm even when wet. The Flanders poly top does the same and adds a wonderful turtle neck which adds another level of warmth which was quite unexpected. As with most Castelli items, I sized-up to an XXL from my normal size of XL. Buy with confidence. This item will become a favorite.

Pleasantly surprised!
- Familiarity:

I was reluctant to purchase this base layer due to the other reviews saying it fit very small, but I rolled the dice anyway and bought it. Backcountry?s customer service is so good and fast, I knew if I needed to exchange it, it wouldn?t be a problem. Fit was true to Castelli?s sizing and fit just like the many other Castelli base layers, jerseys, and jackets I have in size medium. Quality was up to par for Castelli gear and it was perfect for keeping me nice and warm. I liked the fact that you can unfold the turtleneck and pull it over your chin/mouth if you needed. I definitely recommend it!

Well made, but smaller than normal

I have some bibs, jacket, jersey by Castelli and am usually an XL (bit under 6', 41" chest and 180ish lbs depending on the season). Looks and feels like a great base layer but wow even small by Castelli standards. Could barely get it over my head and the neck is suuupper tight. I have muscular forearms, biceps and shoulders. I'm basically shrink wrapped to the point of uncomfortable.

Great Base Layer / Cut like Jersey
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Great quality base layer for cycling. Extremely warm and ventilated in all the right spots. Make sure you size up in all the top layers made by Castelli. I own base layers from most of the top companies, and Castelli's quality and features are superior. It is cut short in the front like a cycling jersey, so do not buy for snow mountain related sports. I wish I was able to find ski base layers of this quality.
