Hard races require fast wheels, and your stock set isn't going to cut it in the big leagues. If you need a thoroughbred race wheelset, with all of the pedigree of the Italian pillars of cycling, you need the Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two Carbon Tubular Wheelset. Simply put, the Bora uses our favorite recipe for speed -- carbon fiber rims and hubs, stainless steel spokes, and ceramic bearings. A deceivingly simple formula, we know, but the Bora's effectiveness has been proven everywhere from the Tour to the World Championships. The Bora's results don't lie, and its speed is its bond.
Campagnolo's Bora Ultra Two Carbon Tubular Wheelset is the latest edition in a wheel lineage with palmares that include a stage win in every race worth winning. It owes its prestige to ingenuity, rider-feedback, and a 50mm rim depth that's balanced by a 20mm width. Not a deep rim for the sake of being a deep rim, it uses a calculated wing profile that's been designed according to the laws of fluid dynamics. This means that the rim allows a maximum air penetration to achieve the greatest aerodynamic coefficient in the Campy wheel arsenal. What does this mean to you? The Bora Two cuts through the wind while remaining stable in crosswinds. In fact, this is a good time to reference Campagnolo's S.H.A.R.C. rating system. To deliver the best performing wheels in the peloton, Campy formulaically broke down the essential characteristics of a top-performing wheel -- Smoothness, Handling, Aerodynamics, Reactivity, and Comfort. The Bora Two easily ranks as one of Campagnolo's most well-rounded wheels, but in regards to aerodynamics, it scores a 9.5 out of 10. As a point of reference on the impressiveness of this score, the Ghibli Ultra disc wheel is a perfect ten in aerodynamics. And most amazingly, the Bora Two doesn't sacrifice a stitch of rigidity or weight savings to achieve its aerodynamic edge.
The wheels use a full carbon fiber construction to maximize weight savings and stiffness, and accentuating the carbon layup in these fields are straight-pull, stainless steel spokes. It might sound archaic to attribute such accolades to something as seemingly trivial as spokes, but the Bora doesn't use an ordinary design. Each wheel utilizes Campagnolo's G3 Geometry to maintain a consistent, perfect spoke tension. Coupled with two of the proprietary Spoke Dynamic balancing spokes, the Bora lacing pattern increases transverse rigidity, which increases power transfer while simultaneously eliminating high velocity vibrations. To further increase stiffness and efficiency throughout the drivetrain, the wheelset features an oversized, drive side rear hub flange. This increases torsional and lateral rigidity, which equates to direct reactivity when you break pace from the line for the final sprint.
The Bora's front wheel uses an aerodynamic 18 spoke lacing pattern, while the rear adds durability with 21 G3 rear spokes. The close grouping of three-spoke clusters further contributes to the wheelset's aerodynamics by shielding them from drag on the both the drive and non-drive sides. For braking, the Bora Two requires a special set of pads that increase all-weather modulation and power. And to nearly eliminate mechanical drag, the wheelset rolls on Campagnolo's CULT ceramic bearings, set in carbon fiber hubs with the proprietary cup and cone bearing system. Campy also included its Eccentric-closure system quick-release skewers, and a wear indicator to measure the life of the rim.
The Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two Carbon Tubular Wheelset comes with a Campagnolo freehub body that accepts 9-, 10- or 11-speed cassettes. The rims, hubs, and spokes are the color Black.
