Why We Like The RX8 Mountain Bike Shoe

The RX8 combines the best features of Shimano's high-end road and mountain footwear into one pair of shoes that's specifically designed for gravel racing. A stiff carbon sole ensures all your pedaling power is transferred into forward motion, while the lightweight uppers wrap your feet in supportive comfort. Abrasion-resistant TPU lugs on the outsole provide traction for the tricky hike-a-bike sections commonly found in gravel events.

Great shoes

Familiarity:

I bought these to replace a pair of RT82's which I had used for several years of spinning, road and gravel riding. I wear a size 10.5 US shoe and both pairs are 44's. The RX8's are about a half inch longer and somewhat narrower. My foot is on the narrow side, and both the length and width suit me better. They are significantly lighter and fit my foot like a glove. Getting in and out of these is a bit of a challenge, but once they are on, they feel great. They seem to be well constructed and I look forward to using them for a long time.

Shoe feels great, extremely light weight. however, tread seperated from beneath the left shoe. Seems the glue has given out after only a few uses.

I was hesitant to purchase with the single boa strap but it doesn't feel loose at all. The top velcro strap really doesn't do much (set it and forget it). It's stiff but not too stiff when walking. Comfort is where it really shines - fits my foot like a glove and doesn't feel bulky nor too tight anywhere.

Excellent gravel/road shoe

I really love the stiffness of the sole. The power transfer is excellent. I also like the fact the the toe box is adjustable separately from the upper portion of the shoe.

Great gravel shoe

Have about 3500 miles on these shoes. For gravel riding in New England, these are great. Stiff soles, easy to put on and take off, and very light. The velcro strap is pretty worthless, but otherwise the design is perfect for me. Others have noted that the exposed carbon on the soles gets dinged up when walking, but that has not been my experience. Maybe I'm doing more riding than walking? Haha. I've been on rooty and rocky singletrack with these on my gravel bike, and have had no problems with traction or damage to the shoes. I use these with Eggbeaters, and that combo works great--super stiff shoes and simple connections to the cranks. Have no experience with these as mountain biking shoes, but as gravel shoes these are pretty awesome.

YES YES YES - AMAZING

Use to wear S-Works Recon (which trashed my ankles)... Put 80 miles on these things first ride (XC/Trail) in NC. Killer shoes that feel amazing and don't rub. Stiff but also easy to walk in if the terrain becomes hike a bike. Some reviews say they pinch, but I found keeping them a little loose was key to comfort. I purchased one size smaller than the chart recommended. Hope they last a long time!

Bought a pair of light used RX-8s from a friend this year. Then took them on a bike tour that included some hike a bike. Was disappointed that the tread peeled off on one of the shoes. Out of warranty so I tried glueing it back myself. Hopefully, it will hold. As stated below, super comfortable and light. These will be saved for paved road touring and 1 day gravel events in the future.

Shimano RX8 shoes??????

Familiarity:

This is my 2nd pair of RX 8 shoes. The first pair was adapted to 3 hole for road cleat use?yes I cut off some traction knobs to accommodate and used Epoxy as a filler but they came out great! They are very stiff and comfortable?and the Boa works easily. I ordered a 2nd pair for gravel and spinning use?these shoes are so comfortable and functional?my favorite shoes and well worth the $

I needed a comfortable shoe sized up for Unbound. My Sidis I've always worn super snug but couldn't risk that for this ride. Went with the RX8 in size 45. Sidis are size 44 and tight. The RX8s are comfortable, lightly padded, and light'ish. On and off is ok. Single boa with four connections works fine. The shoe is stiff and racy considering it's a off road shoe. Walking is ok in this shoe, but not a shoe I'd go walking around town in. The outsole for walking is fairly hard and narrow. The carbon makes it rather stiff for a stroll. So, found the shoe super comfortable to wear, racy when racing and serviceable for a walk when required. Didn't think about them at all in 206 miles.
